Aug 15, 2012 - SPEARS Southwest Tour Series at Stockton 99 this Saturday Night


This Saturday’s “Performance Electrical Co. 125” is the seventh race of the 2012 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series ten-race championship season.  Saturday night’s event will also feature a special appearance by the Budweiser Clydesdales, a Fireworks Spectacular, Vintage Super Modifieds, Legends of the Pacific/SRL Legends Tour presented by Pro-Cast Products, Stockton 99 Mini Cups and USAC Ignite Midgets.

 

General Admission - $25, Juniors ages 11 to 15 - $15, Children ages 10 and under are free. 
Grandstands open at 4pm, with racing at 6pm.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER – With wins at The Bullring on May 12th, Stockton 99 on June 9th, and at Rocky Mountain Raceway on July 21st, Derek Thorn and his Campbell Motorsports team currently lead the 2012 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship with 1018 points entering this weekend’s race at Stockton 99.  Jim Pettit II is second, 29 points back of Thorn, M.K. Kanke is 11 points behind Pettit, and Jason Gilbert is fourth, 20 behind Kanke, and only 58 points out of the lead.

 

PAST RACE WINNERS – Past SPEARS Southwest Tour Series race winners at Stockton 99 who are entered for this weekend’s “Performance Electrical Co. 125” include; Jacob Gomes (2011 and 2012), Jim Pettit (2009 and 2011), Derek Thorn (2012) and Greg Voigt (2009). 

 

QUALIFYING BONUS – If a driver can set the fastest qualifying time, then win Saturday night’s  “Performance Electrical Co. 125”, the driver will be awarded a cash bonus of $1,250, in addition to the $3,000 for winning the 125 lap main event.

 

NATIONAL LEADER – SPEARS Southwest Tour Series driver, Derek Thorn continues to lead the national point standings for the SUNOCO Driven Challenge.  Thorn leads all drivers of the CRA, PASS and ASA Midwest Tours competing for a test with Joe Gibbs Racing at the conclusion of the 2012 season.  As the top ranking SPEARS Southwest Tour Series driver in the SUNOCO Driven Challenge standings, Thorn was awarded a mid-season bonus of $1,000 in SUNOCO and Joe Gibbs Driven products.

  

TOP ROOKIE – Roseville’s Zane Lovelace currently leads the 2012 Victory Circle Chassis Rookie-of-the-Year point standings over Jeff Oleen, Colby Potts, and Donny St. Ours with Brandon Loverock rounding out the Top 5.

 

FIREWORKS and the SPEARS SOUTHWEST TOUR – Saturday will mark the third time that the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series has been packaged with a ‘Fireworks Spectacular’ in 2012.

 

LEGENDS – Saturday’s event is the 6th round of the SRL Legends Tour presented by Pro-Cast Products.  SRL Legends Tour point leaders after five races are; Darren Amidon with 784 points, Ryan Cansdale 780, Zane Smith 682, Cale Kanke 667, Christian McGhee 660, Johnathan St. Ours 642, Buddy Shepherd 631, Ricky Schlick 611, Chad Schug 569 and R.J. Johnson 546.

SRL Race Procedures Notes: When the caution is displayed – the field is frozen – no racing back to start/finish.  Only the first 3 laps per caution period are counted.  A ‘Free Pass’ is awarded to the first car 1 lap down; the car will simply drop to the rear of the field for the restart.  During the final 10 laps of the race, only green flag laps are counted.  Teams are required to qualify and race on the same set of tires.
