LUPTON IN FOR VEGAS
Dylan Lupton is participating in a partial SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series Schedule in 2019. Lupton will be making series start number five, of the season, as the SRL heads to the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the $10,000-to-win Retro Custom Metals 150 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse San Dimas”. The November 23rd event will follow Lupton’s participation in the Nascar Gander Outdoors Truck Series: Ford EcoBoost 200 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway
Lupton has found a degree of success in the NASCAR Truck Series, with one top-five and three top-10 finishes in his six starts for DGR-Crosley Racing. In the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series, he has one top-five and two top-10’s in his four appearances, in the family owned VanDoorn Racing Development Super Late Model. Lupton has enjoyed his time in the series, but feels his results could be better, if it wasn’t for some mechanical issues on race day.
“Overall, we have had a blast racing in the SRL series this year, Lupton stated. “They do a great job at attracting large car counts, filled with some of the most talented Super Late Model drivers across the country. We have had speed every race, but unfortunately have had mechanical failures and problems as well, that have taken us out of contention to win races.”
Lupton has certainly had speed, when it comes to qualifying. Twice he has garnered the Performance Friction Brakes Zero Drag Fast Time Award, beating out four-time series champion Derek Thorn. If Lupton is to achieve his third pole award in the series, he will have his work cut out for him in the expected 30+ car field.
In preparation for the event, Lupton took his Super Late Model to the “Bullring”, for the $10,000-to-win Open Comp. Lupton had a strong run, finishing third behind Preston Peltier and SRL Championship Runner-up Linny White. He finished just ahead of ninth place series regular Kyle Neveau, and a returning Christian McGhee. Lupton feels the experience will pay off on the 23rd, as he heads back to Las Vegas for the season finale.
“We ran the Open Comp a few weeks back, to prepare for the final SRL race of the season at the Las Vegas Bullring”, Lupton recalled. “We had a great battle up front, and learned quite a bit on areas to focus on for this final race. Fans can bet they will see door to door racing, and even some pushing and shoving out there, as we fight for that 10,000 check!
The 2014 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship Runner-up will look to improve upon that third-place finish at the “Bullring”. His Lupton Excavation, Shreddy Chevy will participate in three 45-minute practice sessions on Friday evening. On Saturday, the West Coast Short Track Championships will see two more 30-minute practice sessions for the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. The “Tour” will be joined by the Spears Modified Series presented by Lucas Oil, the Jr. Late Models and the Late Model Trucks.
Spectator Gate open at 2:00 pm, with Late Model Truck Heat Races at 2:15 pm. Jr. Late Model Qualifying follows at 2:30 pm, with SPEARS Modified and SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Qualifying up next. Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for 4:00 pm, with Feature Events for the Jr. Late Models (two 35-lap segments), SPEARS Modifieds (75-laps), Late Model Trucks (35 laps) and the “Retro Custom Metal 150 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse” following.
Celebrating its nineteenth season in 2019, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
