Bearden Anticipates Strong Run at the Showdown

The state of Texas will once again be represented at the “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200” at Irwindale Speedway on February 6th. The season opener for the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series will find Leander, TX driver Logan Bearden return to Irwindale for the second consecutive season, looking to score the $30,000 victory. The track has become one of Bearden’s favorites, as he loves the close racing the track promotes.

“Irwindale might have become one of my favorite racetracks to race”, Bearden told the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. “I was pretty comfortable with the place, and had good speed right off the trailer. I had heard about all the two and three wide racing that the track produced, but didn’t understand how true that actually was, until the green flag had dropped. The amount of side-by-side racing, and having three lanes to run, is pretty awesome.”

The former World Karting Association (WKA) National title holder had his best SPEARS Southwest Tour Series finish in last year’s Showdown. Bearden finished sixth, after a late race incident saw him brush the outside wall, slowing his effort. With last year’s race under his belt, and a new VanDoorn Racing Development Super Late Model in the fold, he feels like he is in a good position to challenge the front runners and compete for a win.

“We had a top-five racecar last year, before late race trouble, so the goal is to build on that and better it”, Bearden explained. “We are bringing a new Vandoorn Racing Development car for this year, so I believe we will be capable of running in the top-three and contending for a win.”

This will be Bearden’s seventh  trip to compete in SRL events. Three of those were trips to Kern County Raceway for the Winter Showdown. He also has two championship event starts at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In 2020, Bearden scored two top-10 finishes in the Southern Super Series in three 5 Flags Speedway starts. The 2018 Pro Modified Track Champion at Houston Motorsports Park is thankful for his opportunity to travel out to the West Coast and compete in some of the biggest events in the country.

With the help of Bob Bruncati, the 2021 “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown” will pay $30,000 to the winner of the 200-lap feature event at Irwindale Speedway. The Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services, as well as the Spears Modified Series will join the action, racing for $15,000 and $5,000 respectively. An optional Test Day is slated for Thursday with the official Practice Day getting underway on Friday.

Saturday, Race Day, will see the Super Late Models practice from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM with Qualifying for all divisions beginning at 2:30 PM with the Modifieds, Pro Late Models and Super Late Models proceeding in that order. Opening Ceremonies are slated for 4:30 PM with “B”-Main Events set for 5:00 PM. The “Pro Late Model Showdown 150″, ‘Modified All-Star Showdown 100″ and the ‘Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200” will follow.
