Davidson Returns to the All-Star Showdown
Friendswood, TX competitor Chris Davidson is the second driver, from the Lonestar State, to enter the 2021 “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown presented by the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame” on February 6th at Irwindale Speedway. Davidson will be participating in the “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200” for the second consecutive year, after finishing 11th in 2020. Davidson is coming off the “Allen Turner Pro Late Model” Track Championship at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. Davidson scored a victory in the four-race series that made up the championship season.
Davidson has become accustomed to travelling, with minimal Late Model events in the state of Texas. The 2016 Southern Super Series Championship Runner-up has top-five finishes in races such as the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 at 5 Flags Speedway, the Florida Governors Cup at New Smyrna Speedway, the Baby Rattler at South Alabama Speedway and a win in the Texas Big Shot 250 at Central Texas Speedway. In 2019, he scored a top-10 effort at the Canadian Short Track Nationals at Jukasa Motor Speedway. The effort was in front of a field of 57 Pro Late Models, paying $75,000 in Canadian Dollars for the win.
Most recently, Davidson finished seventh in the “Allen Turner Snowflake 100” for Pro Late Models, at 5 Flags Speedway. After a solid qualifying effort of 21st in the “Snowball Derby”, Davidson finished 32nd, after completing only 200 of 302 laps. He will now turn his attention to an event that will pay $30,000 to the winner, at a facility at which he has three All-Star Showdown starts. As a representative of the NASCAR Southeast Series, Davidson finished 40th in 2004, but rebounded for a solid seventh in 2005. He finished 11th in last year’s effort.
The two-time United States Racing Association Champion is excited to return to the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series for his second championship event start. He will return to a track he enjoys competing at, with a series he enjoys competing with, for a winner’s purse that he will enjoy pursuing.
“We really like the series and the people involved with it”, Davidson stated. “We feel welcome anytime we show up to an SRL race, and we really like Irwindale Speedway. It has multiple grooves and allows for great racing. The fact that this is one of the highest paying races in the country just adds another reason to show up and race.”
As successful as Davidson has been over the years, it is not surprising that he has one goal in mind on February 6th. That goal is to take the win in the 200-lap feature event. With his experience in 2020, he is hopeful that the team will bring home the win and the prestige that goes along with it.
“Our goal is just the same as everyone else’s, to win”, Davidson explained. “Hopefully, our notes from last year will give us a good place to start, and we can improve from there. There is also more practice time this year so that should help those like us who haven’t raced here regularly.”
Making the 1,040-mile haul from Friendship, TX is an expensive proposition. It takes a great support team and financial help from sponsors. Davidson is grateful for that help, as he remarked.
“I would really like to thank my family and crew as well as Mike Garvey Racing and Senneker Performance for helping to make this event possible.”
Thanks to Bob Bruncati and the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame, the 2021 “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200” will pay $30,000 to the winner of the 200-lap feature event at Irwindale Speedway. The Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services, as well as the Spears Modified Series will join the action, racing for $15,000 and $5,000 respectively. An optional Test Day is slated for Thursday, with the official Practice Day getting underway on Friday.
Saturday, Race Day, will see the Super Late Models practice from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM, with Qualifying for all divisions beginning at 2:30 PM. The Modifieds will go first followed by the Pro Late Models and Super Late Models. Opening Ceremonies are slated for 4:30 PM, with “B”-Main Events set for 5:00 PM. The “Pro Late Model Showdown 150”, “Modified All-Star Showdown 100”, and the “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200” will follow. The Modifieds and Pro Late Models are scheduled for the inner 1/3-mile oval, while the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series will see action on the ½-mile.
For those unable to attend, the event will be shown live at www.SpearsRacing.TV and on a delayed basis on MAVTV.
