Huddleston Hopes to Turn His SRL Luck Around at Irwindale Speedway
For Immediate Release: SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series
Bakersfield, CA – When the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series visits Irwindale Speedway, Trevor Huddleston has always been a driver to keep your eye on. The 65-time winner at the ½-mile facility sits second in all-time wins, two behind Irwindale Speedway legend Rip Michels. A win this weekend, in the “SPEARS Manufacturing 100”, would edge him even closer to the record, but a change of fortune in the series will be required to achieve that outcome.
Huddleston has had a difficult time, and a plethora of bad luck, when it has come to his Super Late Model results as of late. In 2020, he attempted five events in the series, competing in only three of them after mechanical issues prevented him from qualifying at Kern County Raceway in May. At ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA, a stuck throttle nearly destroyed his racecar in August. A wounded racecar saw Huddleston fail to qualify into the field, at the Bullring at LVMS, in a 42-car field. In the Last Chance Qualifier, he was in a transfer position, but mechanical issues ended his effort. At the 2021 All-Star Showdown, Huddleston practiced on the optional Thursday test day, but was unable to participate the remainder of the weekend.
But the three-time Irwindale Speedway Late Model Champion did secure a fifth-place finish in the July of 2020 SRL event. In eight SPEARS Southwest Tour Series starts at Irwindale, he has four top-five finishes, including a career best second. In his ARCA Menards Pro Series West car, he has a victory to go along with a second and tenth place result, in his only three starts. It is a series in which he has two victories and consecutive fourth-place championship finishes. The Agoura Hills, CA driver is also coming off one of the biggest wins of his career, scoring the $10,000 victory in the Nut Up “Short Track Shootout” for Pro Late Models, at Madera Speedway.
Huddleston hopes that his recent success in the Pro Late Models, and a sweep of the season opening weekend for the Irwindale Speedway Late Model Twin Main Events, will translate to his SRL effort. He is thankful for the support he has received for the upcoming weekend, and the opportunity to compete in multiple divisions.
“I would like to thank all my family and friends as well as Bob Bruncati and Maureen Bruncati, High Point Racing, RACECAR Factory, Haas Racing Development, Lucas Oil and TerraClean.”
