Jeremy Doss Endures for Fifth SPEARS Pro Late Model Series Win in a Row
For Immediate Release: SPEARS Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services
Bakersfield, CA – As Jeremy Doss will admit, this weekend’s win in the SPEARS Pro Late Models Series presented by Sigma Performance Services was more luck than anything else. But at the end of the day, Doss stood in Victory Circle with his fifth win in a row in the series, this time at All American Speedway in the “51 FIFTY LTM. 75 presented by Lucas Oil”. The win was worth $3,125 for the 2018 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series Champion, with a bonus added from Berco Redwood. The win bolstered his championship lead over his nearest competition, and set him up for the second half of the season.
Doss survived a mid-race altercation with Trevor Huddleston while leading, and then subsequent dented bumpers, door panels, and fenders, as the final laps of the event had its share of pitfalls and snares.
“I feel like we didn’t have the car to win tonight”, Doss admitted. “The 50 (Trevor Huddleston) did. He just could have been a little more patient. He turned us around in pretty much a racing deal. I had to return the favor and I feel we are even now. It was rough and I hate to see my teammates get together. They should have finishes one and two, and we should have finished sixth. I guess you can say we are lucky to be here in Victory Lane.”
Trevor Huddleston got the day started by setting Fast Time over the 16-car field. Tanner Reif was second, representing the family after young brother Tyler broke a collarbone earlier in the week. Doss was third with Jake Bollman, Dylan Zampa, Mike Beeler, Mike Lovell and Logan Zampa rounding out the redraw participants.
Doss got the lucky draw and scored the number one position. JD Motorsports teammates Mike Lovell and Jake Bollman followed with Logan Zampa, Mike Beeler, Tanner Reif, Trevor Huddleston and Dylan Zampa the remainder of the redraw participants. Doss got the jump at the start and the top-four maintained position through the opening salvo. Trevor Huddleston was the one on the move as he ascended to the top-five by that point. He made quick work of Zampa on the bottom and followed it up by getting by Lovell as Bollman on laps 27 and 29. Huddleston then cruised to the Competition Caution on lap 40, ready to take up the battle for the lead.
The restart saw Huddleston take the lead on the bottom and slowly pull away from Doss. The first incident related caution flew on lap 48 for an accident involving Corey Neveau and Jason Romero, eliminating the former track champion. The ensuing restart found Doss back to the lead with a power move past Huddleston. The battle for the lead became heated however, and Huddleston made contact with Doss entering Turn #1, sending Doss spinning. Both drivers were forced to restart in the back and proceed with a desperate race back to the front.
The incident moved Jake Bollman and Mike Lovell to the front, with Seth Wise, Logan Zampa and Dylan Zampa the top-five. On the restart, Lovell was able to get back in front of Bollman before another caution flew for Jason Gilbert, with Dylan Zampa sent to the rear for his part. Another caution on lap 65, for Seth Wise, slowed the action with Huddleston getting by Doss in a three-wide move that backfired for Doss. On the restart Bollman regained the lead, but appeared to check up slightly with Lovell getting into the back of him. This set off a huge wreck in Turn #4. Huddleston got the worst of it and was towed to the pit area, with Doss finding himself back in the lead again, with a veteran move through the incident.
After that point, Doss was never seriously challenged again, surviving another Red Flag on lap 70. When the checkered fell on lap 75, Doss had victory number five and a car with numerous battle scars. He was followed across the line by Cole Brown, Seth Wise, Mike Lovell and Hans Beeler.
Doss was somewhat subdue after the win, feeling like he could have driven a cleaner race. But the 2020 SPEARS Modified Series Champion was grateful for his team and the effort put forth.
“I just feel like I could have been better as a driver tonight, and drive more of a respectful race. For that part I feel like I let my team down and some other drivers. A couple owe me one, but we will go try to get them at the next one. I just gotta thank Duane Sharp and the JD Motorsports crew. Earnest Performance, Senneker Performance, PFC Brakes, Swift Springs, Horsepower Project, Kulwicki Driver Development Program, and just everyone who is onboard with this team. It has been a lot of work and I’m glad to go five in-a-row.”
The next event for the SPEARS Pro late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services will be at Kern County Raceway on June 26th. The event will be the first visit for the series to the a half-mile oval. The Pro Late Models will race for $7,600 to win and will join the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series Super Late Models, and the SPEARS Modified Series. A special fireworks display will cap off the evening and the sixth round of the 2021 season.
