Seth Wise Ends Doss PLM Win Streak at Kern County Raceway

Bakersfield, CA – In a battle eerily reminiscent of the SPEARS Pro Late Model event at All American Speedway a month ago, Jeremy Doss and Trevor Huddleston went at it for the lead at Kern County Raceway this past weekend in the “Sigma Performance Services 50”. But when it all shook out, neither Doss nor Huddleston were found in Victory Lane. The result was Seth Wise scoring his first Pro Late Model victory in the SPEARS Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services. The win was the biggest of his young career, and worth a cool $7,600 for the Bakersfield, CA native.
“We grew up here, but this was my first race on the big track”, Wise described. “It really meant a lot to get this win. My first win in my whole life was this event three years ago, so it means a lot to come back and do this again.”
Trevor Huddleston got the ball rolling, setting an automatic Track Record at the ½-mile oval, with a lap of 19.447 over the 18-car field. Doss was a tick back at 19.508, nearly three-tenths quicker than Logan Zampa in third. Kyle Meyer was fourth, with Seth Wise rounding out the top-five. With the top-eight redraw, Huddleston and Doss remained in place, with Christian Bazen, Kyle Meyer, Seth Wise, Cassidy Hinds, Logan Zampa and Jake Bollman the top-eight line-up.
The initial start saw Trevor Huddleston jumping to a quick lead over Doss, with Meyer making the preferred outside line work to take third. A caution flew on lap-three for Tanner Reif, and upon resumption, Seth Wise moved to fourth. Huddleston looked to have the dominant car, as he pulled out to nearly a second lead over Doss. But it didn’t take Doss long to regroup, as he closed to the back bumper of Huddleston by lap 22, the same round that Wise was able to take third from Meyer.
Doss began to pressure the leader, trying to make the pass on the high side off Turn 4, on multiple occasions. Huddleston was able to repeatedly shut the door, however. On lap 27, Doss moved to the high side once again, and crossed over down the front stretch, entering Turn 1 on the bottom. The two made contact, with Huddleston going around and hitting the inside retaining wall in Turn 2, ending his night. Doss was relegated to the rear, by rule. The incident was reminiscent of the altercation at Roseville, with Doss leading and Huddleston pressuring.
Upon the restart, Wise inherited the lead, pulling away from Meyer. All eyes were on Doss, however, as he began to slice his way back through the field. By lap 50, Doss had recovered to third, but he ran out of time, as Wise cruised to his first Pro Late Model win. Meyer held on to second, with Doss, Logan Zampa and Dylan Zampa the top-five. Mike Lovell was sixth with Jake Bollman, Grant Thompson, Cassidy Hinds and Mike Beeler the top-10.
After the event, Wise recalled the battle between Doss and Huddleston, as he closed on the lead duo.
“I was just focusing on hitting my marks”, Wise stated. “I wasn’t driving any harder there battling, and I was catching them. Fortunately, that came down. You just take every chance you can get out here, to get up to the front. It worked out great for us. We took the opportunity, made the best of it, and got our win.”
The next event for the SPEARS Pro Late Models will be at Irwindale Speedway on July 17th. They will join the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series and the SPEARS Modified Series at the popular ½-mile.
