Logan Zampa Goes for SPEARS Pro Late Model Win #1 at Irwindale Speedway
Bakersfield, CA – Logan Zampa won the $10,000-to-win Nut Up Short Track Shootout at Madera Speedway in 2018. This Saturday night, Logan will be looking for his first win in the SPEARS Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services, on the inner 1/3-mile at Irwindale Speedway. The “Spears Manufacturing 60 presented by OPTIMA Batteries” will pay $3,000 to the winner and will be Round #7 of 11 for the inaugural season of the series.
Zampa opened the season at the same facility, scoring a disappointing 13th-place finish at the $15,000-to-win “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 150”. It was the worst finish of the season for the elder Zampa brother, leaving a poor taste in his mouth for the Napa, CA racer. When the series returned in April however, Zampa ripped off a top-five finish and had a change of heart about the 1/3-mile, as he explained.
“Irwindale Speedway started out as being probably my least favorite track, but has become one of my favorites, because of how much you have to be up on the wheel. One tiny mistake and you are getting the freight train.”
In 2021, Logan Zampa made the move from the Madera Speedway Nut Pro Late Model Division to the SPEARS Manufacturing Pro Late Models. Logan ran only partial campaigns at Madera, but finished seventh, eighth, and 10th in the championship standings, over the last three seasons. He scored a win, eight top-five and 13 top-10’s during that period. Logan currently sits third in the 2021 Spears championship standings, after earning three top-five and five top-10 finishes. His best was a third at The New Stockton 99 Speedway, while finishing fourth in the last event at Kern County Raceway Park. It was a race where he edged out his brother Dylan Zampa, gaining championship points on his bro in the runner-up position.
Despite the fact that he and his brother Dylan trail Jeremy Doss by triple digits, Logan will look to make in-roads on the championship leader at Irwindale. As a competitive personality, Logan feels that a successful season is not just finishing in the top-five, but on top of the board.
“Personally, as a competitive family-owned operation, I would say a successful season would result in a first and second overall in the championship standings”, Zampa told the SPEARS Pro late Model Series. “But that comes with time, and with me as a driver, I take every race one by one, because anything is possible when a driver straps his or her helmet on.”
Logan is currently a student at Napa Valley Junior College, with plans to transfer to Sacramento State for the Fall Semester in 2022. He will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in school, but will be focusing on his Pro Late Model racing this summer. As one of the Sigma Performance Services “Young Gun” competitors in 2021, Logan is new to touring series competition. He enjoys visiting new tracks, and the experiences it creates. But he also enjoys the competition and the environment at the track.
“I enjoy how competitive the SRL Pro Late Model Series is, because of how competitive and tight the fields are on any given weekend”, Zampa said. “With these rules and regulations, it makes for a very smooth and relaxed weekend. It gives the chance to any driver, big or small, to grab that trophy at the end of the weekend.”
With multiple big paying events on the schedule, it makes the competition even more difficult. The season opener paid a whopping $15,000-to-win of the “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 150”. It was followed by the “Asparagus Cup 125” at Stockton 99 Speedway, paying $7,600 to win, both of those to Jeremy Doss. The last event at Kern County Raceway Park (KCRP) saw Seth Wise take home $7,600. The October Classic at KCRP will pay $5,400 thanks to Sigma Performance Services. But the event that Zampa has his eye on is a return to the rough and tumble short track located in Stockton, CA. It is an event supported by Alan and Jeff Bischofberger to the tune of $15,000-to-win and $400 to start.
“I am most looking forward to the $15K to win, 166 lap Shootout at Stockton 99. I feel that is going to be a true short track race with tempers flaring and bumpers banging”, Zampa exclaimed.
As the season hits the Summer session, Zampa will be looking to turn up the heat on his competition. He will be looking to pick up his first series win this weekend and continue his efforts through October. He is thankful to those who are making his efforts possible, as he stated.

The “Spears Manufacturing 60 presented by Optima Batteries” will see the SPEARS Pro Late Model Series visit Irwindale Speedway for the third time in 2021. They will be competing for the $3,000 winner’s prize. Jeremy Doss won the first two visits to the 1/3-mile. They will be joined by the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series who will compete for $10,000 to win, thanks to SaltedMetals and David Mulcahy. The Spears Modified Series will also be on the card for the weekend. Irwindale Speedway’s NASCAR LKQ Pick Your Part Pro Late Models will be on hand as well as the wild and crazy MINI VAN DEMOLITION DERBY. Admission Gates open at 4:00 pm (PST) with Qualifying for the Pro Late Models, Modifieds and Super Late Models immediately following. The Irwindale Speedway LKQ Pro Late Models will then run their first of two features. An On-track autograph session is scheduled for 5:45 pm with Main Events kicking off at 7:00 pm.
