Bakersfield, CA – Brandon Farrington entered the 2021 Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series season seeking the Rookie-of-the-Year Award, at the completion of the 10-race season. He had already participated in six previous events, earning two top-five finishes, including a third at the LVMS Bullring and Dirt Track in a 42-car turnout. With those results, the three-time Tucson Speedway. Super Late Model Track Champion was primed to take on a strong class of rookie contenders. At the end of the season, he had several outstanding runs, but ultimately finished seventh in the championship standings and third in the rookie battle.
Farrington opened the season at the $30,000-to-win Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway, finishing 21st, putting him in a hole to start the season. A 13th-place run at the Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway Park was followed by his first of five top-10 finish of the season, with a seventh at Irwindale. An 11th at The New Stockton 99 Speedway proceeded his best finish of the year, when he ripped off a third at ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA a few weeks later. Another top-10 at Kern County Raceway Park led to a disappointing 15th at Irwindale. The Sigma Performance Services driver then earned a hard fought eighth at Stockton before returning to Roseville where he earned another top-five, coming home fifth.
With a shot at earning the final top-five position in the championship standings, Farrington entered the finale at Kern County Raceway Park, looking for another strong run. The Tucson, AZ driver was having that run, working inside the top-five, but only made it to lap 65, when he dropped out of the race. The final result of 19th denied him that opportunity.
Overall, Farrington showed good speed throughout the season, earning two PFC Brakes Zero Drag Fast Time Awards. With a little more racing luck, the Tucson, AZ driver could have reached his goal of earning the Rookie-of-the-Year Award. Watch for some more strong performances for Brandon in the future.
The next event for the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series is the “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown” at Irwindale Speedway. 44 Super Late Models appeared in 2021 and on February 12th, another stellar field is expected.
