Lovelace Undeterred by Madera Finish
Roseville CA-
Zane Lovelace, driver of the #46 Prestige Autobuyers.com/ MotoFX Toyota Camry remains confident in both his car and his team after a disappointing finish to the Spears Southwest Tour season opener in Madera Ca. The “Melo’s Gas & Gear 151” presented by 51 FIFTY Energy Drinks was just the third appearance by Lovelace at Madera Speedway.
Lovelace put consistently impressive numbers on the practice boards on Friday until the spur gear broke in the rear end during his 2nd practice session. Crew Chief Ty Joiner, Car Chief John Camilleri, and mechanics Stephen and RJ Godett worked feverishly to make repairs, but were unable to make the final practice of the day. With the help of team owner Zane Lovelace Sr. and spotter Billy Shaul, Saturday’s practice times were faster than the day before, 3rd fastest during the first practice session, only to suffer more problems with the rear end during the final practice session of the day.
Qualifying 3rd and starting in 5th place after the invert, the green flag waved and Lovelace quickly got down to business making his way up to 3rd place. “This car was so fast all weekend, I really thought we would be there in the end” Lovelace said on Monday. On lap 78, while running in the top 5, Lovelace got tangled up in a fender fight trying to get around lapped cars. A pit stop for minor repairs was necessary, causing him to go several laps down. Despite the damage, a determined Lovelace still managed a 16th place finish. “Finishing in 16th place isn’t the way we wanted to start this race season, but we have 9 more (SRL) races to get where we want to be.” he adds.
Lovelace and the 46 team will have 3 weeks to prepare for their next scheduled event with the Spears Southwest Tour on April 6th at The New Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, CA. In addition to completing the entire 2013 SRL schedule, Zane Lovelace and his team are anxiously awaiting the Grand Opening at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, CA on April 20th 2013. The team is planning to debut a brand new truck arm car built by JRC. “This car is going to be amazing, I can’t wait to see what it can do.” Lovelace stated. “We’ll be taking it to some race tracks that I’ve never raced before, so it’s a really exciting time for all of us.” he said.
