Hall of Fame Inductee Ready for Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series Win

Bakersfield, CA – 2022 West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame inductee John Moore has had a long career in racing, that includes numerous successes. He has an extensive resume of accomplishments in motocross, in which he sports dozens of championships. His stockcar resume includes a championship in the Pacific Challenge Series, as well as the 2021 title in the NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series at ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA. That also includes the NASCAR State of California Championship. But Moore has yet to taste the sweet nectar of victory in the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series. He will now head to Kern County Raceway Park for the self-sponsored “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout Flick the Switch – Bulwark ‘FR 100”, seeking that first win, as he races with a new partnership still in its fledgling state.

Beginning two events ago, Moore teamed up with Campbell Motorsports, and the championship driver and Crew Chief combination of Derek Thorn and Mike Keen. The new pairing found Moore finishing fourth in the “Winter Showdown 100” at Kern County Raceway Park, right out of the box. It was his best career finish at the high-speed half-mile, in his 15th career Kern start. The next event at Irwindale Speedway found Moore qualifying ninth in the 23-car field, but an early race multi-car accident in front of the veteran racer ended his night. John is looking forward to the pairing making great strides, as they get comfortable with one another.

“Racing with Derek and Mike, we are two races in, and they’re getting to know me and vice versa”, Moore explained. “The talent is there; we just need to make the magic happen. Their work ethic is outstanding!”

The Granite Bay, CA driver currently sits seventh in the championship standings, after suffering two DNF’s in the first four events. The normally consistent driver will look to turn his early season misfortunes around and score a $10,000 win, thanks to JM Environmental Inc. It will be Moore’s 47th career start and would be his 23rd career top-10.

Moore has been a big supporter of the SRL and West Coast racing in general for many years. This weekend’s event will be Round #2 of the “Wild West Shootout” Series, which will pay $10,000 to win and $1,200 to start, for those on the Spears Manufacturing Frequent Flyer Program. The events feature special race formats and procedures. Saturday’s event will include a straight-up start, based on Qualifying, and maximum green flag runs of 27 laps (unless within the last 25 laps). Round #1 went to Jacob Gomes at All American Speedway, and Round #3 will be contested at The New Stockton 99 Speedway on July 16.

Moore, who has top-five finishes in the “Winter Showdown”, Madera Speedway’s “Short Track Shootout”, and the “Win River 125” at Shasta Speedway is always one of the most entertaining characters at the racetrack. His gregarious personality lends itself to much social interaction, and it is not uncommon to find him sitting out in the open, in a director’s chair, as opposed to retreating to his trailer. One might think his favorite activity at the track would involve socializing with others or maybe enjoying a race victory. But Moore has another item on the top of his list when he visits the track.

“My favorite part of the race weekend is when the race car motor fires up getting ready for first practice”, Moore expressed. “It sounds like jungle drums …it brings out the beast in me.”

But John may have found a new favorite moment in racing, after his induction into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame this last weekend. Moore made the trip to Sonoma Raceway for the induction ceremony, surrounded by racing legends, friends and family.

“It was surreal, exciting, humbling, and an absolute honor”, Moore commented about his attendance. “The people in the room were so genuine and wonderful. It is the best trophy I’ve ever received. And the words my son had to say about his dad made all the years of firing up the truck before the sun lit the racetrack, an even better memory.”

Moore will look to make some more memories next weekend, when the series holds its 208th race and 21st at Kern County Raceway Park. With the series winningest driver and Crew Chief in his camp, Moore is ready to get his first win. If Moore gets there, it will be a celebration that all will remember.

Admission Gates officially open at 5:00 pm. Qualifying for the Spears Modified Series is scheduled for 5:20 pm followed by the Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services and the Super Late Models. Opening Ceremonies commence at 7:00 pm. The Modifieds will open by running the “General Tire 60 presented by PFC Brakes”. The Pro Late Models will race for $5,400 in the “Sigma Performance Services 54” and the Super Late Models will round out the racing with the $10,000-to-win “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout Flick the Switch – Bulwark ‘FR 100”. The Luina “Feel the Power” Fireworks Spectacular will round out the evening’s activities.
