Bakersfield, CA – Dylan Zampa had a tough start to the 2022 season, but things have been looking up since his 29th-place finish at the “All-Star Showdown 100” at Irwindale Speedway in the Spears Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services. He has collected two wins in the series to go along with six more NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series wins at ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA (seven total). He made his debut in the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series at Irwindale Speedway finishing fifth in the Sigma Performance Services Super Late Model.
Now Zampa will have his chance to get behind the wheel of the Randy Hedrick, Sierra Speed and Technology, Spears Southwest Tour Series Super Late Model, when the series visits The New Stockton 99 Speedway for the “JM Environmental Wild West Shootout Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap 127 presented by 51 FIFTY LTM” on July 16th. Hendrick is excited to have Zampa behind the wheel, after Zampa’s strong run at Irwindale. He is happy to help the recent Napa High School graduate with his effort for the 2022 Kulwicki Driver Development Program championship.
“It’s really all about the Kulwicki program”, Hedrick explained. “Joey (Zampa, Dylan’s father) spoke with me at Kern (County Raceway Park) and it’s such a good opportunity for Dylan. I decided to give him the ride to hopefully improve his chances. His run at Irwindale (Speedway) showed he’s got the talent in the “Super”, so we’ll give it a shot and see how it goes. With Eric (Schmidt) there as well, we have two chances for good runs, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Zampa was the 2021 Sigma Performance Services “Young Gun” Champion in the Spears Manufacturing Pro Late Model Division. In doing so, he earned a fully paid for effort at Irwindale Speedway in the Sigma Performance Services Super Late Model. As mentioned, Zampa had an impressive effort, finishing fifth in the event. With his success, he has earned the opportunity to compete with Hedrick and Crew Chief RJ Johnson on the the 16th in Stockton. It is an opportunity that he and his family team have been working hard for.
“Getting this opportunity with Randy and his Sierra Speed and Technology Team has been something we’ve been working towards for some time”, Zampa stated. “He has top notch equipment, and his cars always look amazing.”
The event, on the smallest track on the “Tour” schedule, will certainly be different than at the half-mile at Irwindale. Stockton is known for its’ action-packed events, and the slower overall speeds mean little, in terms of lacking excitement. The historic venue has seen racing as far back as 1947, with the track developing a reputation for hard-fought on-track battles. Zampa has four SRL Pro Late Model starts at the facility, earning top-five finishes in each event, including two runner-up efforts. He hopes those experiences help in the Hedrick Super Late Model, to score another top-five effort.
“Stockton is definitely an action-packed track in the Pro Late Model, so I can only image how much more it will be in the Super”, Zampa conjectured. “I’m hoping to get the car handling good so we can compete for another top-five, hopefully. Most importantly, I want to bring the car home in one piece so we can potentially build off of this.”
The Pro Late Model star is happy to be doing double duty on the weekend of the 16th. He is grateful for those who have made it possible in both the Pro Late Model, as well as the Super Late Model, as Zampa stated.
“I’ve got to thank Randy for this opportunity, and everyone at the Kulwicki Driver Development Program and our sponsors that allow me to live out my dream.”
