Bakersfield, CA – The “Chez” will make Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series start #123, when the series visits Redwood Acres Raceway for the “Rumble in the Redwoods 125”. Scott Sanchez is the only driver participating in this season’s schedule who participated in the inaugural 2001 season for the series. Sanchez will make his third start at “The Acres”, after making appearances in the inaugural event in 2013, as well as in 2015. Sanchez earned a ninth-place finish in the later start. It was one of his 13 career top-10’s in the SRL.
Sanchez is a fan of the facility, as it is one of the shorter tracks on the schedule. He enjoys the tracks of less than ½-mile, and the driving style that it promotes.
“It’s a fun racy track that’s a great size for the Supers” Sanchez commented. “It is always a bit more fun when you can hustle the car if you need to, unlike Kern or Irwindale. Personally, I just enjoy the smaller bullring style tracks.”
Sanchez sits 10th in the championship standings and is looking for his third consecutive appearance in the top-10. His best season finish was a ninth, three times. He is the all-time leader in positions gained in a race, starting 29th and finishing fourth in the “Canidae Classic 110” at Irwindale Speedway, improving 25 positions. He has one “Hard Charger Award” in 2022, starting 16th in the Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway Park and finishing 12th. Sanchez has the distinction of being one of only five drivers to have earned over $100,000 in series career earnings. He sits one start behind Jacob Gomes for the the all-time series lead and has been chasing the 2015 series champ for several years.
Sanchez is known as a driver who exhibits patience on the track, saving his equipment, while waiting for his opportunity to advance through the field. At the next round at Redwood Acres Raceway, he anticipates a quick pace, which could possibly play into his hands.
“I don’t anticipate anyone trying to save tires. Especially with the new right side, the pace will be on kill most likely.”
Sanchez will make his 53rd consecutive start on the 13th, at Redwood Acres. He is thankful to be able to participate in Round #7 to continue that series leading streak.
“I need to thank Motor City Buick GMC, Gibson Crane LLC, and David Mulcahy with Salted Metals Architectural Metals for all they do to get team 24 to each event.”
The “Rumble in the Redwoods 125” is the seventh event of the 2022 Spears Southwest Tour Series campaign. Four drivers have logged victories this season in the first six events. $5,000 will go to the winning driver. Qualifying is scheduled for 6:00 pm with Opening Ceremonies to follow. Legend and Bomber Heat Races are next with an Autograph/Meet and Great Session on the front stretch to follow. The “Rumble in the Woods 125” is next with the racing activities winding up with Feature Events for the Legends and Bombers.
