Bubba Nascimento Returns Home to Stockton 99 Speedway and the SRL

Bakersfield, CA – Eric Nascimento Jr. (better known as Bubba) is coming off his career best finish in the ARCA Menards Pro Series West, scoring a second at Irwindale Speedway (CA) on July 1st. Bubba will now make his way to his home track to compete in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout – Dog Eat Dog 127” at The New Stockton 99 Speedway (CA) on July 15th, competing for a $10,000 win. Nascimento was the 2020 Late Model Track Champion, and he will seek to grab his first series victory in the Nascimento Motorsports #21.
Nascimento was a Rookie-of-the-Year competitor with the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series in 2019. Nascimento was fast, but luck was not on the side of the now 22-year-old racer, during the campaign. He finished 12th in the overall championship standings and fourth in the rookie battle behind Tyler Fabozzi, two-time ARCA Menards Pro Series West champion Jesse Love, and multi-time Colorado National Speedway Super Late Model winner Jace Hansen. Since 2019, he has only two SRL starts, finishing third at Stockton in 2021 and seventh last year.
After a partial ARCA Menards Pro Series West schedule in 2021 and 2022, Nascimento is pursuing the full schedule in 2023. He earned a career best of second in his last start, but he sits 11th in the standings after mechanical issues and on-track altercations. He is hopeful to ride his recent momentum into Stockton, his favorite track on the “Tour”.
“We have struggled very badly in our ARCA Menards Series season”, Nascimento explained. “We have had lots of speed at every track this year, but we have yet to finish where we belong with motor failures, and driver contact. We finally had a chance to finish one a couple weeks ago at Irwindale Speedway. I really like the direction this team is going. We have got our heads down digging for more speed, each and every day. Stockton has always been my favorite track, and Super Late Models are such a blast to drive.”
But with the return to the site of his 2020 Late Model championship effort, Nascimento feels confident about his chances of winning at a track that promotes close, tight racing.
“I really enjoy the tight hard racing when it comes to Stockton 99 Speedway”, Nascimento beamed about the opportunity to compete back home. “You know when you show up, that you are going to have to work for every inch. I have a lot of laps at Stockton 99 Speedway, and I feel that we will have a great chance at a win, with lots of family and friends in Turn 1 cheering us on.”
Nascimento will be bringing the teams 2018 FURY Race Cars Super Late Model, the same car the team brought to Stockton the last two seasons. The car has only two starts with Bubba behind the wheel in the last three seasons, but he knows the car will be well prepared for this weekend’s event. He is thankful for the chance to get back behind the wheel and for his sponsors which support the effort.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Joiner Motorsports, Nascimento Motorsports, David’s Racing Products, Impact Transportation, Fidelity Capital, Phillips Brothers Fabrication, Scott Conway Racing, RJ’S Paint Shop, Paul Cardoso, Finish Line Express, Panella Race Engines, Competition Carburetors, Skip Co Welding and Industrial Supplies, Kleen Blast, All-Star Moving and Delivery, Rail Bar, and Machining by Randy.”
Round #6 of the Spears SRL Southwest Tour will be the 33rd trip to the ¼-mile oval for the series. The “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout – Dog Eat Dog 127” will pay $10,000 to the winner, and $1,000 to start, for those on the Spears Frequent Flyer Program. It will be the only trip to Stockton for the series in 2023. They will be joined by the Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services and the Spears Modified Series for the very first time. The NCMA Sprint Cars are also on the schedule. Admission Gates open at 5:00 PM with Racing at 6:00 PM.
Celebrating its twenty third season in 2023, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
