Greeley, CO driver Jace Hansen has made 26 starts in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series. But he has never made a start in the series closer than 800 miles from his home. On August 12th, Hansen will beat that mark by more than 750 miles, as the series visits his hometrack, Colorado National Speedway (CO), for the Salted Metals Architectural Metals 150”, paying $10,000-to-win thanks to the “Winner’s Bonus” from PFC Brakes. It will be Round #6 of the season for the series and the first visit to the 3/8-mile oval since 2007. It will pay $1,500 to start, for drivers who travel over 500 miles, and are on the Spears Manufacturing Frequent Flyer Program.
“We are excited to have the SRL back out in Colorado”, Hansen exclaimed! “We have run a few races here locally this year, to try and get prepared for the big show! Although it’s been several years since the SRL has been to Colorado National Speedway, I know several teams from out West will be stout right out of the trailer. I’m looking forward to racing those teams at our home turf for a change! The racing is always great out here, so I’m looking forward to some side by side racing with some of the best Super Late Model drivers!”
Hansen has had his fair share of success at the Dacono, CO asphalt oval. He has two Super Late Model victories alone in 2023, with only four starts. That adds to his previous total of nine, including the 2022 “Colorado Challenge Cup XXXXVIII”. In his only two full seasons in the Super Late Model division, he was third in 2016 and second in the 2017 championship standings. Hansen has had success in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series as well, grabbing a $10,000 victory at Kern County Raceway Park (CA) in the 2022 “Wild West Shootout Firecracker 100”. He has eight top-five and 16 top-10 finishes on his resume.
Hansen will be back in his Hamke Racecars Super Late Model owned by Jim and Daun Egli. He is thankful for the opportunity to compete on the 12th, and for those who make it happen.
“I can’t thank Jim and Daun Egli enough for everything they do for me and the team”, Hansen began. “I have to thank Mark, Rich, Chase, Darrell, Will, and Bryce for all their nights at the shop, getting things prepped! As well as Napa of Cheyenne, Buckeye Welding Supply, and Mike Sheetz with Mishe Construction!”
On August 12th, Hansen and the teams of the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series will return to Colorado National Speedway to compete for $10,000. $500 will go to the Fast Qualifier, Longest Tow, Halfway Leader, and Hard Charger each, thanks to David Nava Mulcahy (Homie) and Salted Metals. They will be joined by the local Super Stocks, Figure 8’s, and Grand American Modifieds. Qualifying is scheduled from 5:20 PM to 6:20 PM CST. Opening Ceremonies are set for 6:25 PM with Dashes for the local divisions at 6:30 PM. Intermission is scheduled for 7:30 PM with a Drifter Demo. Feature events are scheduled to begin at 7:40 PM for the Super Stocks (25 laps), Figure 8’s (20 laps), Grand American Modifieds (30 laps), at Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series (150 laps).
