Brett Yackey Defends Home Court when the SRL Invades Colorado National Speedway

Bakersfield, CA – When the Spears SRL Southwest Tour heads to Colorado National Speedway (CO) for the “Salted Metals Architectural Metals 150” on August 12th, the series regulars will be met by some of the toughest weekly racing series Super Late Model competitors in the country. One of those competitors is 2021 Super Late Model track champion Brett Yackey. The 2018 Kulwicki Driver Development Program champion was also the 2021 Tucson Speedway. (AZ) Super Late Model track champion. He is a two-time NASCAR Weekly Racing Series State of Colorado champion as well as the 2021 State of Arizona Regional champion.
Yackey made his Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series debut earlier this season at Tucson Speedway. The effort was a disappointment for the Greeley, CO driver, as he finished 21st in the final rundown. But Yackey and his team have made large strides since, leading the CNS Super Late Model standings, while finishing second in last weekend’s event.
“We made our SRL debut in Tucson, and I’m not sure we could have been any worse”, Yackey recalled. “With that being said, I think we will be a good competitor at CNS. Our team and cars have come a long way since that trip to Tucson, and I’m really looking forward to racing with some of the best in the country.”
Yackey is the son of nine-time Super Late Model track champion Bruce “the Moose” Yackey. Both father and son have victories in the biggest traditional race at CNS, the “Colorado Challenge Cup”. Brett earned the honor in 2018. Bruce participated the last time the SRL visited the Dacono, CO track in 2007, finishing 10th. Bruce also participated with the NASCAR Southwest Tour at CNS, grabbing a victory in 1999. Brett was just a boy the last time the “Tour” visited, but he is happy to see the series return.
“The last time the SRL visited CNS I was only 7 years old, so it will be awesome to be a participant in their return to our fantastic Speedway here in Colorado”, Brett surmised.
The three-time “Turkey Shoot 125” winner at Tucson Speedway will look to score his first win of the year at CNS, in what promises to be the toughest field of the season. He is excited to participate in his second SRL event, and thankful for those who make it possible.
“I would like to thank my sponsors; Breeze Thru Car Wash, Star-Precision Manufacturing, Inta Juice, JW Skidloader, GAM Racing Engines, TDR Concepts, Maxima Racing Oils and Allstar Products”, Yackey expressed. “I would also like to thank my family, Hope, Stewart, Riley, Gary and everyone else who helps along the way!”
On August 12th, the teams of the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series will return to Colorado National Speedway to compete for a $10,000 win, thanks in part to the “Winner’s Bonus” from PFC Brakes. An additional $500 will go to the Fast Qualifier, Longest Tow, Halfway Leader, and Hard Charger, thanks to David Nava Mulcahy and Salted Metals. They will be joined by the local Super Stocks, Figure 8’s, and Grand American Modifieds. Qualifying is scheduled from 5:20 PM to 6:20 PM CST. Opening Ceremonies are set for 6:25 PM with Dashes for the local divisions at 6:30 PM. Intermission is scheduled for 7:30 PM with a Drifter Demo. Feature events are scheduled to begin at 7:40 PM for the Super Stocks (25 laps), Figure 8’s (20 laps), Grand American Modifieds (30 laps), at Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series (150 laps).
Celebrating its twenty third season in 2023, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
