Bakersfield, CA – Nickolas Cooper had a strong start to his rookie Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series season, scoring one top-five and three top-10 finishes in the first five events. But the last two events at his home track, Colorado National Speedway (CO), and his first trip to The New Stockton 99 Speedway (CA), have been disappointing, finishing outside the top-dozen. Cooper hopes to turn that around next weekend, when the series heads back to Irwindale Speedway (CA) for the Allie Bakes 100” on September 16th. It will pay $7,333 to the winner, with another $500 to the leader on lap 33.
The Severance, CO driver is a two-time Super Late Model championship runner-up at Colorado National Speedway, earning multiple wins in 2021 and 2022. He is a two-time championship runner-up in the Rocky Mountain Legend Racing Association, also grabbing multiple wins. He heads back to Irwindale Speedway with Rocky Mountain Motorsports and team owners Kevin and Melissa Steinke, looking to improve upon his fourth-place finish in his last visit, in the teams VanDoorn Racing Chassis Super Late Model.
“I’m looking forward to being back at the track this weekend”, Cooper stated. “Both the car and team are prepared! We have gained a ton of experience and speed this year. We were bummed about our luck at our home track (Colorado National Speedway), but we are excited to bounce back and finish the season strong at the two big half-miles!!!”
Cooper currently sits fourth in the SRL championship standings and second in the Rookie-of-the-Year chase. Next weekend he will seek to close the gap on rookie leader Dylan Zampa, with a shot of a potential runner-up finish in the championship standings. His ROTY effort would not have been possible without the dedication of his car owners, team, sponsors, and family.
“The dedication of the entire Rocky Mountain Motorsports team is unbelievable, and they do whatever it takes to get the #05 on the track. I would love to repay them with a win!! Also, I need to thank Adams Polishes, Neighbors Trailers, Swift Springs, Christian Brothers of Longmont, VanDoorn Racing Development, and Buckeye Welding. Of course, a big thank you to Kevin and Melissa Steinke, my wife Stephanie, my family, and friends.”
The Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series will be joined by the Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services and the Spears Modified Series. For those unable to attend, the evening events can be watched LIVE at SpearsRacing.TV.
