Bakersfield, CA – When the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series visits The New Stockton 99 Speedway, the name Jacob Gomes inherently comes to mind when contemplating a winner. But despite three series wins at the historic facility, Gomes hasn’t crossed the finish line first since 2015. He will seek to put an end to that streak on September 21st, as the SRL will be in town for the JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. Wild West Shootout – There’s Gonna Be Some Rockin’ 127”. $10,000 will be on the line for the winner of the second round of the “Wild West Shootout Series” thanks to John Moore and JM Environmental Inc.
Gomes’ Late Model racing career started off at Stockton, where he was the National Rookie-of-the-Year for the NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series. He earned the nickname “Bacon Boy” at the facility, setting records along the way. He has 18 Spears Southwest Tour starts at Stockton, beginning in 2009. He has not missed a series event at the facility since, as the Manteca, CA racer heads back to the port city track, 15 years later.
Gomes has now accumulated 17 wins in the series, which puts him second on the all-time list. He has 62 top five, 95 top 10, and 14 Fast Time Awards in his 137 series starts. But his last six starts at Stockton have seen him winless. He hasn’t led a led a lap since 2015 but has three top five and five top 10 finishes, including a runner-up finish in 2021. Last year he was a disappointing seventh.
But the three-time series champion has won his last two series starts in 2024, with consecutive $15,000 triumphs. Those wins alone will make him a favorite at his home track in Round #2 of the “JM Environmental Wild West Shootout” series. It will be the series thirty fourth visit to the venerable speedway, in its’ 75th Anniversary season.
Gomes is supported by Nutrien Ag Solutions, Dell’Osso Family Farms, Frontier Lubricants, Studio 10 Wraps, David’s Racing Products, Valley Pacific Petroleum, Reeves Complete Auto Center, Golden Acres Custom Farming, Earnest Performance Shocks, FURY Race Cars, Sal Sigala Jr. Photography, Strange Oval, OCD Detailing, Radios 4 Racing, Swift Springs, Derek Thorn Racing, Weeder Nation, PFC Brakes and Hale Construction.
Celebrating its twenty fourth season in 2024, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
