Carlos Vieira Looks to Continue SRL Rebound at Irwindale Speedway

Carlos Vieira finished the 2020 Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series in the championship runner-up position, converting one top-five and six top-10’s into his best career finish in the series. In nine starts, he had only one DNF. In 2018, Vieira finished third in the championship standings, finishing in the top-10 in all but one start. He had zero DNF’s. Vieira has led laps in each of the last four seasons. 2021 hasn’t been so kind, however. He has three DNF’s in only six starts, and has yet to lead a lap. He sits 10th in the championship standings with one top-five and two top-10’s, but change may be a foot.
His lone 2021 top-five, however, was in his last start at Kern County Raceway Park. Vieira will look to continue the turnaround this weekend at Irwindale Speedway, when the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series visits for the $10,000-to-win SaltedMetals Architectural Metals Design And Consulting 100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse San Dimas”. Vieira scored a ninth place finish the last time the series visited, and with another strong effort, could jump to eighth in the standings. He sits only three points behind Dean Thompson and two behind the “Hammer” Tracy Bolin in eighth and ninth respectively.
Vieira has been accumulating a resume of wins over his career that started at Altamont Raceway Park in 2007. The Livingston, CA driver has won in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Models, he has three victories in the Pacific Challenge Series Super Late Models, and finished second in Madera Speedway’s televised Nut Up Pro Late Model Division in 2019. He opened the 2021 season, in that division, with a $5,000 victory over a 24-car field. But he is still looking for his first SRL win. He would love to get that win this weekend and pocket a cool $10,000.
Vieira is grateful for the support of his racing program, and for those responsible for the progress he has witnessed over the years. He is also happy for the support he will receive from his team and sponsors, as he looks to continue to turn around his 2021 season.
The “Salted Metals 100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse” will see the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series visit Irwindale Speedway for the 21st-time its history. $10,000 will be on the line for the winner, thanks to Salted Metals and David Mulcahy. The Spears Modified Series as well as the SPEARS Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services will also be on the card for the weekend. Irwindale Speedway’s NASCAR LKQ Pick Your Part Pro Late Models will be on hand as well as the wild and crazy MINI VAN DEMOLITION DERBY. Admission Gates open at 4:00 pm (PST) with Qualifying for the Pro Late Models, Modifieds and Super Late Models immediately following.
