Bakersfield, CA – The 34th Annual October Classic is next on tap for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series on October 22nd. The event has never had a driver from the state of Texas in Victory Lane. Chris Davidson hopes to change that when he makes the trip from Taylor Lake Village, TX to Kern County Raceway Park, searching for his first series victory. A win would be worth $7,500 for the former two-time USRA champion.
Davidson is the two-time and the defending Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series champion at 5 Flags Speedway. He is an 18-time winner in the USRA series and will make his third Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series start of 2022. He finished 11th in the “All-Star Showdown 200” and eighth in the “Spears Manufacturing 100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse”, both at Irwindale Speedway. The 2016 championship runner-up in the Southern Super Series will be competing at Kern County Raceway Park for the fifth time overall, but the first time in a championship event. Davidson has appeared at four “Winter Showdowns” with a best finish of seventh in 2018, in a 48-car field. His best qualifying effort was also a seventh in the 2018 version. He will be making his fifth championship start in the series, where he has a best finish of eighth earlier this season.
Davidson has a win in the “Texas Big Shot 250”, in a 39-car field at the now defunct Central Texas Speedway (TX). In the Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway (WA), he has two top-three finishes with a best of second in four starts. He was the championship runner-up in the Viper Pro Late Model Series earning a win at South Alabama Speedway (AL).
Davidson would like to thank Mike Garvey, Senneker Performance Services, and Peters Racing Engines for their support of his Davidson Electric Super Late Model.
The “October Classic 134” will take place on October 22nd. It will pay $7,500 to the winner and $1,200 to start, for those on the Spears Manufacturing Frequent Flyer Program. Spectator Gates officially open at 4:00pm, with Qualifying for the Spears Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services, the Spears Modified Series, and the Spear SRL Southwest Tour Series beginning at 4:20pm. The autograph and on-track trick or treat sessions begin at 5:20pm. Feature events are scheduled for 6:00pm. The LIUNA Feel the Power Fireworks will follow the three feature events.
Celebrating its twenty-second season in 2022, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
