Bakersfield, CA – Dylan Zampa scored his second career Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series victory at The New Stockton 99 Speedway (CA) one year ago. The 2022 Kulwicki Driver Development Program champion and 2023 SRL Rookie-of-the-Year will seek a repeat in the “JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. Wild West Shootout – There’s Gonna Be Some Rockin’ 127”. Zampa enters the contest third in the series championship after his second-place finish in Round #1 of the “Wild West Shootout” at Redwood Acres Raceway (CA) on August 31st. He hopes Round #2 will find him $10,000 richer and within striking distance of the championship, after the penultimate event of the 2024 season.
Zampa was third overall in the 2023 championship standings. He scored wins at Irwindale Speedway (CA) and Stockton, in events that were both slugfests. He held off Ross Strmiska and Blaine Rocha at Stockton and added to his previous Spears Pro Late Model victory at the facility in October of 2022. The track has the reputation as one of the most difficult to master on the West Coast, but also one of the most action-packed facilities for close nose to tail and side by side action. It is that aspect that Zampa loves about Stockton, as well as the challenges for getting the car right on raceday.
“Stockton 99 Speedway is such a great track to race at”, Zampa explained. “Both turns are completely different, which makes setting up the car difficult. But I know we have a great baseline to go back with, after last years’ win. We are getting better with the car each time we hit the track, so I am looking forward to getting back in the seat at Stockton.”
Zampa currently trails Buddy Shepherd and Blaine Rocha in this season’s championship battle. He will need to pick up 16 points on Rocha and 51 on Shepherd to win the championship with two events to go. With 180 points available, it is not out of the realm of possibility, after gaining 10 points on the championship leader at Redwood Acres Raceway (CA). He will look to further cut into that lead at Stockton, with the help of his team and sponsors.
“I’d like to thank Randy Hedrick with Sierra Speed and Technology, Sean & Tim with Apache Rental Group, Anderson Logging, Valley Fabrication, General Metal Fab, J Squared Performance, Earnest Performance, Swift Springs, Allied Auto, Allied Propane, Race CRF, and KRC Power Steering.”
The “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout – There’s Gonna Be Some Rockin’ 127” will be the penultimate event on the Spears SRL Southwest Tour schedule. It will take place at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday, September 14th. It will pay $10,000 to the winner of the 127-lap race. The Spears Pro Late Model Series will join the action, racing for $2,000 in the “Masellis Drilling 60 presented by All Pro Coatings”. The Nor Cal Legend Series will also be on hand, in addition to the Pro 4 Modifieds and the NCMA Sprint Car Series. Admission Gates open at 5:00 PM with Racing at 7:00 PM.
