Fast Facts: This will be the first year that the Winter Showdown will feature 300 laps of racing around Kern County Raceway.  Teams will be allowed three sets of tires for qualifying and the 300-lap race. One set will be qualifying on Friday night, while the other two will be used during controlled pit stops during the main event. The Winter Showdown will be the first race of 2018 for defending Winter Showdown winner Derek Thorn.  One driver who enters the race with momentum is Chris Eggleston, who is coming off a Chilly Willy 150 victory at Tucson Speedway last weekend.  NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Busch will return to the Winter Showdown after finishing third one year ago.  Joining him will be NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Daniel Hemric, who will be making his debut at the Winter Showdown driving for Wilson Motorsports. Another driver to keep an eye on, who will also be making his Winter Showdown debut, is Wisconsin native Ty Majeski. He is making the trip west to Bakersfield, CA with fellow Wisconsin native and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Derek Kraus. Although it wouldn’t be considered a “Showdown Sweep” because it’s now a new year, Preston Peltier will be looking to go back-to-back in Showdown races after winning the 2017 Summer Showdown at Evergreen Raceway (WA).
