Bakersfield, CA – Keith Spangler made his first Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series start in 2006. 104 starts later he will make #105 at Irwindale Speedway in the “Spears Manufacturing 100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse San Dimas” on May 21st. The veteran racer from Porter Ranch, CA has been a popular competitor on both the NASCAR Southwest Tour and the SRL series for 30 years now. The low budget racer will now make his first start of the 2022 season in his Salted Metals Architectural Metals, Port City Racecars Camry, with help from long-time friend David Mulcahy and Spangler Racing.
The old-school racer was a NASCAR Southwest Tour Series regular for many years, racking up 126 starts with 18 top-five and 52 top-10 finishes. The five-time Saugus Speedway Super Late Model winner was instrumental in the SRL’s first decade, as one of the first NASCAR Series drivers to migrate over to support the SRL, when NASCAR closed the “Tours” at the end of 2006. He had four SRL starts in 2006, in the series sixth season, and he became one of the pillars of the SRL series, accumulating 58 top-ten finishes. He sits behind only Derek Thorn and Jacob Gomes. The popular veteran racer will be looking to add to that number, when he makes his 33rd Southwest Tour Series start at the ½-mile multi-groove oval. 17 of those starts were in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series, with eight top-10’s.
The “Spears Manufacturing 100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse” will see the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series visit Irwindale Speedway for the 23rd-time its history. The event will pay $6,000 to the winner, thanks to the $1,000 “Winner’s Bonus” from Loyd Mcghee and J&M Racing. It will also pay $500 to the Fast Qualifier and another $500 to the leader at lap 17. Each of those bonuses are donated in honor of Michael Atkinson (AKA Mike A) who passed away on February 11.
Celebrating its twenty-second season in 2022, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
