Bakersfield, CA – Logan Zampa has been missing from the Spears Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services since the July The New Stockton 99 Speedway (CA) race in 2022, nearly a year ago. On July 15th, Zampa will make his return to the series on his Summer Break from Cal Poly Humboldt and his National Championship Rugby team’s schedule. It will be at the track he last visited with the series, where he scored a runner-up finish to Sean Hingorani in a 21-car field. The All-American Rugby player will make that return, at what is his favorite track on the series schedule.
“Being out of the car for nearly a year, as I just finished my junior year at Cal Poly Humboldt studying Mechanical Engineering, is going to be a challenge”, Zampa explained. “But it is a challenge I am up for, as I am excited to get back in the seat at my favorite track on the SRL circuit.”
The Zampa family has always had an affinity for the short tracks on the series. Father Joey was a two-time winner in the SRL Southwest Tour Series at Stockton, also winning at Madera Speedway. Logan’s younger brother Dylan was also a winner at Stockton, in the Spears Pro Late Models, grabbing five top-five finishes in seven starts. For Logan’s part, he has two top-five results, never finishing outside the top-10 in five starts. That includes a second one year ago, and a third in 2021. He also has a win on the 1/3-mile Madera Speedway, in the $10,000-to-win “Madera Short Track Shootout 150”. But Stockton has always had a special place in the heart of the older Zampa brother.
“Stockton has been a track that my brother and I have always been fast at, and have run up front”, Logan began. “Short track racing is where true talent comes out, and it’s not just follow the leader kinda racing, that the SRL has seen all year with the Pro Late Models, and the half-mile tracks. I can’t wait to strap back in and go short track racing again.”
Zampa continued, “The SRL is a great series that I am glad to compete in. Stockton is a track that brings door banging and great short track racing.”
Zampa was third in the inaugural season for the Spears Pro Late Model Series, behind champion Jeremy Doss and his brother Dylan. He was eighth in points, after an abbreviated 2022 campaign. Overall, he has 18 starts with seven top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. He ran partial Pro Late Model campaigns at Madera from 2018 to 2020, finishing seventh, eighth, and 10th in the championship standings, over those three seasons. He scored a win, eight top-five’s, and 13 top-10’s during that period.
As Zampa returns to the track for a Summer of racing, he is thankful for those who have made it possible.
“All of this wouldn’t be possible without my sponsors, Sierra Speed Technology, Anderson Logging Inc, Allied Propane Service, Allied Auto, Halm Metal Fab, Valley Fabrication, J Squared Performance, and my mom and dad.”
The Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services will join the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Super Late Models and the Spears Modified Series on July 15th at Stockton 99 Speedway. The “Sigma Performance 60 presented by Five Star Racecar Bodies” will be Round #6 of the nine race schedule. Linny White has won the first five events of the season, but he will have to hold off a cast of hungry series competitors, as well as the Stockton 99 Speedway faithful, to grab the $2,000 winner’s prize.
