Bakersfield, CA – John Moore was inducted into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame, Class of 2022. He won the 2021 ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA Pro Late Model Track Championship. He added a Super Late Model title in 2015, garnering the championship in the Pacific Challenge Series. In 2023, he set his sights on a championship in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series, racing for Derek Thorn Racing. But when the season’s final checkered flag waved, Moore came up just one position short.
Moore was the Spears Southwest Tour Series championship runner-up in 2023, adding to his runner-up finishes in the Pacific Challenge Series in 2017 and 2018. Known as the “Ironman” Moore has a pensity for finishing races in his Super Late Models, and in 2023, he teamed up with Derek Thorn Racing to go after the elusive SRL title.
Moore earned three top-five and eight top-10 finishes during the nine-race season. He got his championship effort off to a great start in his DTR Toyota, finishing second in the “All-Star Showdown 200” at Irwindale Speedway. It was also the location of his favorite season memory.
“The most memorable moment of the ’23 season was coming off of turn two at Irwindale in the All-Star Showdown”, Moore recalled. “I got a good run getting up under Bubba Pollard, moving him just enough to slide under him… clean hard racing. Then two laps later he put a slide job on me in between three and four. Then ultimately being able to finish just in front of him, at a marquee event, had to be the highlight of my year.”
Moore additionally finished with top-five runs at Tucson Speedway. and one more at Irwindale. He just missed with two sixth-place hauls at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway. He finished all the races, with the exception of his former hometrack, The New Stockton 99 Speedway. It was his only finish outside the top-10, for the Granite Bay, CA competitor.
Moore plans to run a partial series schedule in 2024, but look for him to be at all the “Wild West Shootout” events in 2024, where he will seek his first SRL victory, leaving the track with guns a blazing.
