Philpott to Make First SRL Start, Since 2006

Ryan Philpott will make his first Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series start, since 2006, at the “2018 Championship Opener presented by 51 FIFTY Energy Drink” at Madera Speedway on March 24th. In his one and only SRL start, Philpott finished 17th, at the now defunct Altamont Raceway Park. He was a track champion, at that same facility, in the Western Late Models and Mini Super Truck Divisions. The third generation racer has 34 starts, in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, with two top 10 championship results. He was also a winner in the Westcar Late Model Series, and more recently in the Loanmart Pro Late Model Series at Madera Speedway.

2018’s plans, for the Tracy, CA driver, include an increased presence with the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. His first attempt of the season didn’t go as he hoped, as he qualified 39th of the 48 cars on hand, for the Fourth Annual Winter Showdown Open Show. He finished sixth in the Last Chance Qualifier, on the Kern County Raceway half mile oval, to miss transfering by two positions.

“As far as this year goes, we are planning on runnng four or five (SRL) races”, Philpott told the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. “We plan to mainly run the short tracks. We learned real quick that our engine was not where it needs to be, at the Winter Showdown.”

Heading to the SRL opening event, Philpott will be participating at a track that he is familiar with, after finishing third in the 2016 Pro Late Model Championship Standings. For his first SRL points paying event in 12 years, his expections are relatively modest.

“I would say our expectations are pretty simple”, Philpott volunteered. “The first is to have fun. Secondly, finish the race on the lead lap, and take as much as the car will give us. I’d say we are pretty good at Madera, and it would be nice to race against the best Super Late Model drivers around. We are a lot more prepared this year, and I’m hoping our results reflect that,” Philpott concluded.

Philpott will bring his Hacienda Pools, NorCal Pool Service Chevrolet to Madera on March 24th, to take on a large field of Super Late Model / Tour cars, from up and down the state of California and Nevada. When the rubber settles, Philpott hopes the competition knows he was there, with a performance that will please his many fans.
