Potts Starts Rookie Campaign Strong with 5th Place Finish at Madera
Colby Potts started off the 2013-racing season strong with a 5th place finish in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour season opener at Madera Speedway. On a night where fifteen drivers were under the track record, Colby managed pilot his Economy Signs/Nascimento Motorsports Chevrolet through the star-studded SRL field into the top five. Colby’s first career Spears SRL Southwest Tour top five allowed him to seize the early lead for the ” Rookie of the Year” battle, in a year where over fifteen rookie drivers have registered.
“Tonight was all about keeping the nose clean and keeping the tires in good shape. I was able to do both of those, and the result was a very fast car near the end of the race” said Potts. The 151 lap race was the longest of the season for the SRL; and in combination with Madera’s “bullring” style racing, the track had its way with many diver’s cars before the night was over. “The first race of the season in any series is so important; it decides the momentum for the entire season” Potts admitted. “I’m ecstatic that we are able to get off to such a strong start to the season, and it’s all a tribute to the work our Nascimento Motorsports team put in this winter.” Potts will be back in the car on April 6th, 2013 at his home track, Stockton 99 Speedway, for the second race of the 2013 Spears SRL Southwest Tour where he looks to continue his momentum and his “Rookie of the Year” points lead.
Colby Potts is an 18 year old late model driver for Nascimento Motorsports. He is currently competing in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour and NASCAR Late Models in his Economy Signs sponsored Chevrolet.
