“Rookie-of-the-Race”
Congratulations to Buddy Shepherd for earning the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series “Rookie-of-the-Race” award last Saturday at The New Stockton 99 Speedway. Shepherd finished third in the “SPEARS Southwest Tour 125 presented by Senneker Performance” to take the honors for the third time in 2021. In doing so, Shepherd advanced to second in the championship standings, only three points behind 2015 SRL Champion Jacob Gomes and just ahead of five-time champion Derek Thorn.
The next event for the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is at ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA for the “JM Environmental Wild West Shootout Round #1”. The event will pay $8,000-to-win with lap bonuses of $1,000 on lap 27 and 127. The top-eight in qualifying will also be eligible to start in the back and earn an extra $5,000 for the victory. All-told, a possible $15,000 payday is possible.
Shepherd has one SPEARS Southwest Tour Series start at the facility, finishing 17th in 2020. He has a victory in the $10,000-to-win “JM Environmental Highline 150” in his Late Model, and a seventh place finish in his lone ARCA Menards Pro Series West start.
